This was a challenging project and a lot more in-depth than one would anticipate. We were tasked to replace the existing floodlights on all sixteen of the level crossings across Scotland. There were two or three floodlights rated between 250watt and 400 watts on or metal Halide lamp sources on each crossing mounted on 8 mtr columns. Network rail engineers carried out measurements between columns etc on each crossing to allow lighting calcs to be produced. The lux levels comply with Network Rail specification which included glare into signal boxes or nearby residencies and more importantly traffic which was taken into consideration in the design process.
The ideal replacement floodlight was the Veelite Metro flood supplying a mixed lumen package of between 11,500lm and 19,000lm. All accessories such as flying leads, photocells and brackets were included. The photos show a daytime shot followed by a night photo showing the illuminated crossing. Network Rail appear to be very happy with the outcome and we appreciate the cooperation between all parties especially our colleagues at team Veelite.
